Meet Dr. Joel Schamber
While working toward his bachelor’s in athletic training at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Dr. Joel realized he wasn’t feeling a lot of commitment or passion for what he was studying.
One day he was reading some research for a paper he was writing, and came across information about chiropractic.
I started thinking it sounded so much more fulfilling and passionate than what I was studying.
So he started looking into chiropractic more, and soon thereafter, he applied to Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic.
From Preceptorship to Practice Doctor
During his last quarter of chiropractic college, Dr. Joel did a required preceptorship, which is like an apprenticeship working under a doctor in the field. “I was looking to do the preceptorship with a doctor closer to home, which would allow me to spend some more time with my family.”
Palmer had a database of doctors they worked with in the past, and Dr. Joel was able to look up information and see who was in his desired area. “Luckily, I found Dr. Lisa on that database, got in touch with her, and made arrangements for her to be my preceptor.” He’s now working with her and is excited to be part of the Novo Chiropractic Sports & Wellness Center team.
Caring for All Ages
As Dr. Joel competed in track and field, he planned to work with athletes and do sports medicine. However, as he went through chiropractic school, he realized he wanted to work with kids and seniors. He found these age groups interesting to work with, and looks forward to providing care to his pediatric and geriatric patients.
Outside of Work
When he’s not at the practice, Dr. Joel likes to spend a lot of time with his family, who live nearby in Wyoming, Michigan, near Grandville. They like to go hiking, do water sports, including kayaking, and in the winter they love to ski.
