Other Conditions Chiropractic Can Address, Part 2

happy patient with signChiropractic adjustments work by removing the nerve interference that causes dysfunction, pain or immobility anywhere the nerves travel to. So anything in your body connected to your nervous system can benefit from chiropractic care. At our Belmont office, Dr. Derek Munson treats many patients who are surprised to learn we can help with their extremity issues, “tech neck” and arthritis.

Extremities

Patients are surprised when we check their back to find problems in their knees or ankles, but often we find irritated structures in the back that cause their symptoms. As we start correcting the problem, patients may experience a centralization of pain–it starts to hurt closer to where the nerve irritation is, so they begin to feel the pain more in their spine and less in the extremity, until we have completely cleared the interference.

We also see many patients with carpal tunnel issues. Overuse and improper healing from nerve irritation accumulate over time, especially in people with desk jobs, causing inflammation that pinches on the nerves that run through the carpal tunnel. Chiropractic adjustments help remove this irritation, so the structures can heal.

‘Tech Neck’

At Novo Chiropractic Sports & Wellness Center, we don’t like to call this common condition tech neck because there are so many things besides computer work that can lead to the poor posture it refers to. Texting, reading books, hunching over to write can all put pressure on nerves and cause misaligned states to arise. Mobilizing those segments and removing nerve interference restores your capacity to heal yourself and prevent further problems in the future.

Dr. Derek also provides patients with ergonomic advice to maintain the best posture possible.

Arthritis

Arthritis is the result of degenerative change that has accumulated. Chiropractic can help preserve the mobility you have and improve healing and support of the nerves, so the joints don’t become stiffer and cause even more wear and tear. Our goal is to help prevent future loss of mobility.
